Journal of Humanitarian Studies Vol. 4, 2015b. When researchers from the three countries visited the JRCCN, an International Seminar on Disaster washeld several times every year, inviting speakers involved with international conflicts and disaster relief.This provided positive inspiration for the researchers and strengthened their motivation to become disasternursing experts.c. JRCCN faculty members deepened understanding that disaster nursing could be applied to people of allages and health conditions, through exchanging opinions and information with researchers of the projectand speakers of international seminars over three years, enhancing their motivation toward disaster nursingresearch and education.Issues way forwardThe sustainability of disaster nursing activities by researchers in the three countries and how JRCCN cancontinue to support these countries are issues going forward.Outcomes of the project and perspectivesResearchers in the three countries became recognized as disaster nursing experts and received requeststo give lectures at nursing associations and nursing schools. They also actively attended national andinternational disaster-related seminars, workshops, academic conferences and volunteer activities. Theseactivities will definitely communicate the necessity of disaster nursing education. As disaster nursing wasintroduced in the nursing curriculum at nursing schools or colleges where the researchers in the threecountries work, this specific program will be recognized as their strength in the nursing society of the threecountries.International SymposiumA two-day International Symposium was held at JRCCN on January 24 and 25, 2014. Disaster nursingeducation was the topic covered on the first day. Researchers from four countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia,Japan and Thailand) did a presentation about how they were able to achieve their aims of 1) compiling adisaster nursing textbook; 2) arranging to include disaster nursing in syllabi and curricula; and 3) creatingdisaster nursing educational materials.Next, a symposium took place with speakers from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand, and JRCCNactively participated. The speakers were Prof. Dr. Mohammad Serajul Akbear, MP, Chairman ofBangladesh Red Crescent Society, Dr. Elsi Dwi Hapsari, B.N., M.S., D.S., Assistant Prof., Gadjah MadaUniv., Prof., Dr. Varunyupa Roykulchareon, President of the Thai Red Cross College of Nursing and Prof.Hiroshi Higashiura and Prof. Dr. Mariko Ohara from JRCCN. Mr. Jim Canjanapokin, Regional HealthCoordinator, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Kuala Lumpur, chairedthe symposium.Researchers from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand described the process of compiling a textbookwith effective cooperation from JRCCN. The textbooks and educational materials were displayed in thesymposium hall. At the symposium, JRCCN speakers described disaster nursing education, with 120 hoursof instruction in the Bachelor program, and International-Disaster Nursing in the Master and Doctoralprograms.Speakers from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand noted that disaster nursing education must be promotedand that more teachers need to be educated in theory and in the field ahead of time. A common issuenoted was the difficulty for nursing students to gain experience in the disaster nursing field. About 90participants attended the symposium.106人道研究ジャーナルVol. 4, 2015
