Journal of Humanitarian Studies Vol. 4, 2015nursing in acute and complex unhealthy conditions independently. The student should have knowledgeabout leadership, pedagogy, communication; tutoring and improvement work applies during the clinicalpractice. The thesis in nursing, 15 credits, is performed during 10 weeks that leads to the bachelor innursing. The students will also depth their knowledge in emergency healthcare, international assistanceand aid work focusing on the Red Cross activities.Second-cycle programThe second-cycle program is a one year master’s program in Nursing (60 credits) that before admissionsrequires basic qualification for higher education, such as being a registered nurse and having a bachelordegree in nursing. To achieve their M.Sc., the students have to write a thesis corresponding to 15 credits.At the moment, the SRCUC have second-cycle programs in intensive care and psychiatric nursing.Independent coursesThe SRCUC give several independent courses. One example is the course Humanitarian Health Assistancegiven in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Medicins sans Frontieres, aiming at providingknowledge, strategies and tools to work as medical staff in low income/humanitarian context. Another is acourse on how to supervise students when in clinical practice.Research activitiesAn academic learning environmentThe SRCUC has a long tradition of research in contributing to the training of researchers and linking itseducation and training programmes to research. The SRCUC has a strong research base across a spectrumof regional, national and international research collaborations and partnerships. At present, the SRCUC hasthree professors (in nursing, public health, and technology in nursing). Fifty-five percent of the teachershave a PhD, and another 43% have a master’s degree. Furthermore, researchers at the SRCUC participatein and contribute to national and international scientific conferences by way of presentations, scientificpapers and literature, expert reports and research reviews. Our research is often conducted in collaborationwith researchers from other universities, public institutions, associations and occasionally, from nationaland international industries.The SRCUC does not have its own graduate education, but all professors and associate professors at theSRCUC are supervising graduate students enrolled at other universities. Some of those doctoral studentsare employed by the SRCUC, and since autumn 2014, the SRCUC have also employed a post doc fundedby the Swedish Red Cross. All senior lecturers have at least 20% and adjunct lecturers at least 10% of theirworking time devoted to research, which contributes to an active academic environment. The SRCUChas a wide professional collaboration with external researchers, representing academic areas as well asinternational aid agencies and organizations.Students are urged to acquire a scientific approachand critical thinking in all learning objectives. In allexaminations, written and oral, individual or in groups,students are required to relate all issues to scientificarticles.Research themesRecently, the SRCUC have taken a decision to activelyexpand and develop its research profile within mattersof humanity, vulnerability and globalisation, and jointresearch projects have been initiated with the SwedishRed Cross and the IFRC in Geneva.Clinical Practicec Swedish Red Cross University College人道研究ジャーナルVol. 4, 201553
