Journal of Humanitarian Studies Vol. 4, 2015The SRUC is currently focusing on the following threeresearch domains:Health challenges in a globalizing world. Societiesworldwide are increasingly being linked together ininterdependencies. More people than ever are living insocial exclusion, often involuntarily caused by disastersand conflicts. Researchers examine different ways oflooking at globalization in relation to people's health-careneeds in everyday life, with special focus on vulnerablegroups such as the elderly, women and children.Health opportunities in a changing welfare society. Socialwelfare and population health are two interdependentlyNew Campus in 2016c Swedish Red Cross University Collegeguiding goals attached to the core values in the Swedish society. Efforts toward improving health, socialinclusion, participation, and healthy conditions and environments require constant adaptation to changingpatterns of health and ill health, social stratification, vulnerability and resources. Scientific and criticalknowledge and understanding of the dynamics of health and welfare within a wide spectrum ranging frombiological to psychological, social and ethical, emerges as an imperative for the sustainability of suchefforts.Health horizons in a virtual/technical contemporary society. Significant changes are taking placein contemporary society in relation to technology in everyday life and in relation to health, caring andeducation. Different technological as well as intersectional perspectives and social and technologicalinnovations are tested and examined, as well as health and care ideology. The aim is to develop usefultechnologies and solutions that simplify the treatment principles and/or improve the lives of people (andpatients), by, among other things, developing autonomous treatments, reviewing the use and developmentof materials in medical devices, and then both its development and its impact on patients. Virtual servicesprovided to healthcare and welfare environments and didactic methods are also examined.Future outlooksNew locationsIn June 2016, the SRCUC will relocate to the newly constructed Campus Huddinge located in the southernpart of Stockholm. The campus area has about 25,000 students. This will be the dawning of a new era forthe SRCUC, as it will be partially co-located with the Royal Institute of Technology School and its Schoolof Technology and Health (STH). The SRCUC will be comprised in a stronger academic environment andnew opportunities for collaboration are created with, in addition to STH, also the Karolinska Institutetand Sodertorn University. Since June 2014, SRCUC and STH have a joint professorship in Technology inNursing.Increasing number of studentsAs a response to remedy the lack of nurses in Sweden, the SRCUC has been demanded by the SwedishGovernment to substantially broaden the intake of students both on a first- and second cycle in the upcomingsemesters. The increase will be about forty percent.New educational programIn the autumn of 2016, the SRCUC will initiate a new three year program of a total of 180 credits leading toa Bachelor degree (B.Sc.) in Public Health Science with special focus on Global Health.
