Empowerment the village health volunteers to support the abused womenViolence against women is a serious public health problem and link to survivors’chronic health problems.Additionally, violence against women would be the health indicator reflecting the social health andrepresent an extreme violation of women’s basic human rights. The domestic violence impacts societyat multiple levels, including individual, family, and society levels. In 2009-2010, the researcher teamby Assistant Professor Dr.Bu-Nga Tanopas: the principle Investigator at The Thai Red Cross College ofNursing developed research project title“the Supporting Model for Abused Women”. This study includedthe empowerment program for village health volunteers in Rayong province to provide psychologicalsupport and counseling to victims of domestic violence. Nurses are critical in generators, boats, safelyevacuating victims from prone disaster areas. Logistics and storage are vital to keep medical supplies,medication. The most important task is rehabilitation aftermath. We need to rebuild all buildings such asschools, houses to replace the wrecking ones.Many nurses who are based in hospitals nearby disaster areas work during an emergency response, in orderto provide care for disaster victims. Yet not only Red Cross nurses, but all Red Cross staff and volunteersshould be capable to provide assistance for disaster victims at all times, based on humanitarian principles.Red Cross nurses and nursing students from The Thai Red Cross College of Nursing were critical in assistingvictims during the floods of 2011 in Thailand. With the appropriate medical training and knowledge on waterand sanitation, nurses cooked clean and healthy meal for flood victims. In the shelters, nurses also providedmedical care and psychological support to both the elderly and children. Nurses helped manage infectioncontrol and health sanitation in shelters. Learning from the experience, we also know that empoweringnurses with the effective knowledge and tools for communication is critical, so they are able to coordinatewith other rescue teams, and participate with local assistance in the community.66人道研究ジャーナルVol. 4, 2015
