Journal of Humanitarian Studies Vol. 4, 2015several years. Moreover, the Red Cross was financiallyinsufficient, and the college’s status of separated schoolfoundation made it legally impossible to apply for schoolreform. To satisfy strengthened conditions, the collegetried to build the second campus in Gyeonggi-do Provincein 2005-2006, but the plan was also ceased. The collegeand alumni association requested the government and thenational assembly to revise the relevant law consideringthe school’s history and distinct characteristics, but it wasnot accepted.(2) Merger with Chung-Ang UniversityCollecting opinions from the faculty, student union andGraduation ceremony in 2012c Red Cross College of Nursing, Chung-Ang Universityalumni association, the college established plan to reform the school system into a four-year universityand merger with another university was promoted since 2008. In November 2010, the process for selectingmerger partner started through open call. In promoting merger, the college had the following preconditions:permanently maintaining the school name as“Red Cross College of Nursing”; succession of foundingphilosophy, history and alumni; securing its own college building in Seoul; installing history museum;succession of employment for all staff; appointing one person recommended by Red Cross to a schoolboard member; raising fund for the college development; and opening Bachelor course from 2012.The College Development Committee, which consists of internal and external celebrities, selectedChung-Ang University (CAU) as a merger partner. With the authorization of the Ministry of Educationon November 7 th , 2011, it was reborn as CAU Red Cross College of Nursing. CAU Red Cross College ofNursing has become the largest nursing college in the nation with 300 entrance quota.2. Nursing College of Outstanding1) Excellence in nursing educationIn order to meet the social change and healthcare needs, the college set up task force for innovation ofnursing curriculum. Furthermore, it applied the integrated nursing curriculum from 2008. The programaimed at transforming from lecture-centered to student-centered through self-directed learning, problembasedlearning, and group dynamics.With the environmental change of clinical training, the previous nursing laboratory was renovated toreproduce clinical setting in 2010. Spring Center (Center for Simulated Practice in Nursing) boasts thenation’s top-class operation and management know-how. There are simulation labs including disasternursing that has seven high-fidelity manikins for eachmajor.In 2010, its nursing simulation was designated as the firstCoEE (Center of Excellence of Education) by LaerdalCompany. In 2013, nursing simulation master’s coursewas opened.2) Humanitarianism and sharingIn November 1996, the college established the internationalexchange center to support overseas detachment ofstudents and professors. Its first international partner wasMalaspina University-College (the present-day VancouverIsland University) in Canada.
